Inspiration Across Inuit Nunaat

Three-day gathering provided a cross-cultural environment for sharing of skills, language and traditional knowledge related to large open skin boats. The event involved workshops, presentations and reflections led by master craftspeople, culture carriers and subject matter experts.

Inuit Ingenuity - Our World of Clothing Gathering addressed the critical need for cultural preservation and vitalization of Inuit heritage by illuminating the diverse traditions, tools, techniques, patterns, and meanings embedded in Inuit traditional and contemporary clothing across Inuit Nunaat.

The gathering exchanged knowledge about hunting practices, hunting as a livelihood, and hunting as a cornerstone to developing more Inuit-centred economy, innovation, and self-determination.

The gathering invested directly in the Inuit who already are carrying out community cultural programming at the grassroots and community level. By bringing these leaders together across Inuit Nunaat, the gathering connected them to peers internationally, created a supportive community of practice and provided the space to shape shared visions for the future.

The primary theme of the exchange was qanuqtuurniq: supporting our cultural strength and interconnectedness. Inuit artists from across vast distances shared knowledge and practical skills, used available materials, and found solutions to shared problems utilizing our creativity and ingenuity.
